Living in San Antonio is a unique experience. We are a city that feels like a small town, yet we are sprawling faster than the construction on Loop 1604 can keep up with. You might be navigating the pressure of a medical career in the Medical Center, balancing family life in Stone Oak, or managing the unique stressors of military life near Lackland o Fort Sam.
On the surface, you keep it together. You show up for work, you take care of your family, and you maybe even head out to The Pearl o Southtown on the weekends to unwind. But internally, the racing thoughts, the tightness in your chest, and the constant "what-ifs" are becoming harder to ignore.
I’m Anamile Guerra, and I help adults in San Antonio manage anxiety without the added stress of a commute.
When "Military City USA" Feels Heavy
San Antonio is known for its resilience and community. We show up for Fiesta, we support our Spurs, and we take pride in being Military City USA. But that culture of strength can sometimes make it difficult to admit when you are struggling.
You might feel like you have to be the "strong one" for your family, especially if you are navigating a partner's deployment or reintegration. Or perhaps you are a student at UTSA o Trinity, overwhelmed by the pressure to succeed and the fear of falling behind.
Anxiety often thrives in silence. It tells you that you are the only one feeling this way—that everyone else walking the River Walk or shopping at La Cantera has it all figured out. I want you to know that you are not alone, and you don’t have to carry that weight by yourself.
Why Online Therapy Works for San Antonio
Let’s be honest: the last thing you need when you’re anxious is to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-35 or Loop 410. The thought of driving from Helotes to Alamo Heights during rush hour is enough to spike anyone's stress levels.
Telehealth removes that barrier. It allows us to meet where you are most comfortable.
- Conveniencia: Squeeze a session in during your lunch break at the Medical Center or from your home office in Converse.
- Privacidad: No worrying about running into a neighbor or colleague in a waiting room.
- Accessibility: Whether you are in King William or out past 1604, quality care is just a click away.
A Bilingual Space for Healing
Un espacio bilingüe para sanar.
San Antonio’s culture is deeply rooted in our Hispanic heritage. For many of us, our thoughts and emotions flow between English and Spanish. Trying to translate your deepest feelings can sometimes dilute them or make them feel less "real."
I am a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, fluent in both English and Spanish. If there are things that just make more sense to say in Spanish—or if you switch between languages when you're stressed—that is completely welcome here. You can bring your whole self to therapy, language included.
My Approach to Anxiety
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to mental health. Instead, I use a blend of evidence-based methods to help you understand your anxiety and build practical tools to manage it.
- Terapia centrada en la persona: We start by building a safe, non-judgmental relationship. I want to understand your world from your perspective.
- Terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC): We will look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Often, anxiety is fueled by automatic negative thoughts. We work together to identify these patterns and challenge them.
- Terapia Breve Centrada en Soluciones (SFBT): We will identify your strengths (you have them, even if you don't feel them right now) and focus on practical steps toward the future you want.
I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. This ensures that our work together is supported by a wealth of clinical experience and guidance.
What Does Anxiety Look Like for You?
Anxiety isn't always a panic attack. In a high-energy city like ours, it often masks itself as "high-functioning" stress. You might recognize yourself in some of these scenarios:
- The Overthinker: You lay awake at night replay conversations from a meeting downtown or worrying about an interaction that happened three days ago.
- The Perfectionist: You feel like you can never do enough. Whether it's your job, your relationship, or your appearance, the bar is always just out of reach.
- The Avoidant: You find yourself canceling plans with friends or avoiding certain places (like crowded grocery stores or events) because the mental effort to go feels insurmountable.
- The Physical Symptom Holder: You experience unexplained headaches, stomach issues, or muscle tension that doctors can't quite pin down.
