Terapeuta LatinX

Living in the “Home of the Grapefruit,” we often feel a strong sense of community pride. From the history at La Lomita Chapel to the quiet trails at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Mission has a unique spirit. It is a place where family ties run deep and the culture is vibrant. But even in a city known for its warm weather and close-knit neighborhoods, it is possible to feel incredibly alone.

If you are struggling with a persistent sense of heaviness, sadness, or a lack of motivation, you are not the only one. Many people here in the Rio Grande Valley carry these feelings in silence, often worried that asking for help might look like weakness. I want you to know that acknowledging your pain is actually the first step toward strength.

I am Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I provide online counseling to help residents of Mission and the surrounding areas navigate depression and find their way back to a more balanced, fulfilling life.

Why Mission Residents Choose Telehealth

Life in Mission is growing faster than ever. Whether you live in the bustle of Sharyland Plantation, the historic Original Townsite, or quieter areas like Cimarron, your day is likely full. The last thing you might have energy for is fighting traffic on Expressway 83 or navigating the construction near Conway Avenue just to get to an appointment.

Online therapy allows you to receive professional support without the commute. You don’t have to worry about running into a neighbor or a coworker in a waiting room—a common concern in a community where it feels like everyone knows everyone. You can log in from a private space in your home, your parked car during a lunch break, or anywhere you feel safe.

This format removes the barriers that often keep people from starting therapy. It offers the privacy you need to be open and honest, with the convenience that fits your actual life.

Entendiendo la depresión en nuestra comunidad

In the Hispanic culture that is so central to Mission, there is often an unspoken rule to “be strong” or to handle problems within the family. You might feel pressure to keep going for the sake of your parents, your children, or your job, pushing your own feelings down.

Depression, however, isn’t just “feeling sad” or having a bad day. It can feel like:

  • Entumecimiento emocional: Losing interest in things you used to love, like weekend cookouts or spending time with friends.
  • Agotamiento físico: Feeling tired no matter how much you sleep, which is often dismissed as just “needing to work harder.”
  • Isolation: Withdrawing from family gatherings because putting on a happy face feels like too much work.
  • Negative Thoughts: A cycle of guilt, worthlessness, or hopelessness that you can’t seem to shut off.

I understand these cultural nuances because I have lived and studied here. I am a bilingual therapist (fluent in English and Spanish), and I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology from UTRGV. I know that healing requires an environment where you are understood not just clinically, but culturally as well.

Mi enfoque hacia la curación

I believe that therapy is a collaboration. You are the expert on your life; my role is to walk alongside you and provide the tools to help you navigate the terrain. I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S, bringing a grounded, professional approach to our sessions.

I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” method. Instead, I blend several evidence-based approaches to fit your specific needs:

  • Terapia centrada en la persona: This means I provide a judgment-free space where you are heard and respected. Your story matters, and I am here to listen without criticism.
  • Terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC): We will look at how your thoughts affect your feelings and actions. Often, depression lies to us. I help you identify those negative thought patterns and replace them with more realistic, helpful ones.
  • Terapia Breve Centrada en Soluciones (SFBT): While we will explore the root of your feelings, we will also focus on the present and the future. We will identify your existing strengths—the resilience you already have—and use them to build practical solutions for your daily life.
  • Psicología positiva: We won’t just focus on what’s going “wrong.” We will also work to uncover what is going right, helping you build a sense of optimism and well-being.

What to Expect from Online Sessions

Starting therapy can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never done it before. Here is what you can expect when we work together:

  1. A Safe Space: Our video sessions are confidential and secure. You can speak freely about your worries, whether they involve family stress, relationship issues, or past trauma.
  2. Practical Tools: You won’t just talk; you will leave with strategies you can use immediately. This might mean learning new ways to cope with stress at work or finding small ways to reconnect with your family.
  3. Bilingual Support: If you feel more comfortable expressing your emotions in Spanish, or if you find yourself switching between languages (Spanglish), I can support you fully. Language should never be a barrier to healing.
