Living in Pflugerville often means balancing the charm of a tight-knit community with the pressures of rapid growth. Whether you are navigating the traffic on I-35, adjusting to life in a new subdivision like Falcon Pointe or Blackhawk, or trying to maintain your work-life balance while commuting into Austin, the stress can pile up.
Sometimes, that stress evolves into something heavier. If you have been feeling a persistent sense of sadness, exhaustion, or a loss of interest in the things that used to bring you joy, you are not alone. Depression can affect anyone, even when life looks “successful” on the outside.
My name is Anamile Guerra. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, and I provide online counseling to help residents of Pflugerville find their footing again. I offer a supportive, bilingual (English and Spanish) space where we can work through these feelings together, without the need for you to leave your home.
The Reality of Mental Health in a “Boomtown”
Pflugerville has transformed over the last decade. What used to be a quiet farming community is now a bustling hub for tech workers, young families, and people seeking a bit more space than the city core offers. But rapid change brings unique challenges.
In neighborhoods like Highland Park or Avalon, there is often a silent pressure to “keep up.” When you are surrounded by new developments and a culture of growth, admitting that you are struggling can feel incredibly isolating. You might look around at the busy shopping centers at Stone Hill or the crowds at Typhoon Texas and feel completely disconnected from the energy around you.
Depression often thrives in that gap between how we feel and how we think we debería feel. You might tell yourself that because you have a good job, a nice house in Windermere, or a supportive family, you don’t have the “right” to feel depressed. But mental health doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t check your address or your resume.
I help clients acknowledge these feelings without judgment. Whether your depression is triggered by a specific life transition—like a job change or a move—or feels like a cloud that has slowly settled in over time, we can explore it together.
Why Telehealth Makes Sense for Pflugerville
Let’s be honest: the logistics of living in Central Texas can be draining. While Pflugerville offers a great quality of life, the commute is rarely the highlight of anyone’s day.
If you are working in Austin and living in Pflugerville, you likely spend a significant portion of your day on I-35 or paying tolls on SH 130 just to get home. The last thing you want to do when you are struggling with low energy or low mood is to get back in the car, fight traffic on Kelly Lane or Dessau Road, and sit in a waiting room.
I offer counseling exclusively via telehealth for my clients in the Pflugerville area. This means:
- Sin desplazamientos: You can attend your session from your home office, your parked car during a lunch break, or your living room couch.
- Privacidad: There is no risk of running into a neighbor or colleague in a clinic lobby.
- Consistencia: It is much easier to stick to a therapy schedule when weather, traffic, or car trouble aren’t barriers.
I am physically based in the Houston-Pearland area (where I see in-person clients), but my license allows me to serve anyone in Texas. This setup provides you with high-quality care without the geographical limitations.
Mi enfoque en la asesoría
I believe that therapy is a collaboration. You are the expert on your life; my role is to provide the tools, perspective, and safe environment to help you navigate it.
I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My educational background includes a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Southwest.
When working with depression, I draw from several evidence-based approaches to tailor our sessions to your specific needs:
Terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC)
Depression often comes with a harsh inner critic. You might find yourself trapped in negative thought loops (“I’m a failure,” “Things will never get better”). We use CBT to identify these patterns and gently challenge them, replacing them with more balanced, realistic thoughts.
Terapia Breve Centrada en Soluciones (SFBT)
Sometimes, digging into the past feels too overwhelming right away. SFBT allows us to focus on the present and the future. We look for “exceptions”—times when things felt a little bit lighter—and identify small, manageable steps you can take to move toward your goals.
Person-Centered and Positive Psychology
I focus heavily on your strengths. Even in the midst of depression, you have resilience and capabilities that have gotten you this far. We will work to uncover those strengths and use them as a foundation for your healing.
Bilingual Support
I am fluent in both English and Spanish. For many people, emotions are tied deeply to their first language. If you feel more comfortable expressing yourself in Spanish, or if you want to switch between languages to fully capture what you are feeling, my practice welcomes that. This is particularly relevant in a culturally diverse community like Pflugerville, where many families navigate bicultural identities.
Recognizing the Signs of Depression
Depression looks different for everyone. It isn’t always staying in bed all day (though it can be). For many high-functioning adults in fast-paced areas like the Austin metro, depression can look like:
- Irritabilidad: Snapping at your partner or kids more than usual.
- Entumecimiento: Feeling like you are just “going through the motions” at work or home.
- Síntomas físicos: Unexplained headaches, stomach issues, or constant fatigue, even after sleeping.
- Withdrawal: Skipping the neighborhood gathering, avoiding calls from friends, or stopping activities you used to enjoy, like walking the trails at Lake Pflugerville or visiting the library.
- Brain Fog: Difficulty concentrating on tasks or making simple decisions.
If you recognize these signs in yourself, it doesn’t mean you are broken. It means your mind and body are signaling that they need support.
Creating a Path Forward
Starting therapy can be intimidating. You might worry that it will be awkward or that you won’t know what to say. That is completely normal.
In our first session, we won’t dive into your deepest traumas immediately unless you want to. We will start by getting to know each other. I will ask about what brought you in, what your life looks like on a daily basis, and what you hope to change.
We will set goals that are meaningful to tú. That might mean waking up with enough energy to exercise, feeling more connected to your spouse, or simply having a safe place to vent about the stressors of life.
I have experience working with adults of all ages, including older adults and couples. Whether you are a young professional dealing with burnout, a parent adjusting to an empty nest, or someone navigating a major life shift, I am here to walk alongside you.
