Cibolo is often called the "City of Choice" for a reason. It offers that rare blend of small-town Texas charm and modern convenience. You can spend a Saturday morning at the market on Main Street or grab brisket at Harmon’s, and still be just a short drive from the city. From the quiet streets of Bentwood Ranch to the newer developments in Turning Stone, this community feels safe, family-oriented, and growing.
But living in a peaceful, "perfect" suburb doesn't mean your internal world feels the same way.
For many people I talk to in Cibolo, there is a disconnect between the calm surroundings and the chaos they feel inside. Whether you are navigating life after military service, recovering from a past accident, or carrying the weight of childhood wounds, trauma doesn't stop at the city limits.
I’m Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I offer online trauma and PTSD counseling to help you find your footing again, right from the privacy of your own home.
When the "Quiet Life" Feels Loud Inside
Cibolo has changed a lot in recent years. We’ve gone from a rural outpost to a booming suburban hub. While growth brings great things (like Scoop at the Mill or the new spots opening on Main Street), it also brings pressure.
In neighborhoods like Cibolo Valley Ranch or Saddle Creek, there is often an unspoken expectation to keep up appearances. You might feel like you have to be the perfect parent, the reliable employee, or the strong partner. If you are struggling with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or unresolved trauma, that pressure can be exhausting. You might feel like you’re wearing a mask every time you leave the house.
You are not alone in this. Trauma affects people from all walks of life, and it’s not something you can just "get over" by trying harder.
A Note for Our Military Community
Living so close to Randolph AFB, Cibolo is home to many active-duty service members, veterans, and military families. I understand that for this community, seeking help can feel complicated. You might be worried about privacy, or you might feel that civilians won't understand the specific weight of what you've carried.
My goal is to provide a space that is completely confidential and judgment-free, where you can process your experiences without fear of stigma.
Why Online Therapy Works for Cibolo Residents
If you’ve ever tried to get from FM 1103 to I-35 during rush hour, you know that "just a quick drive" into San Antonio is rarely quick. The last thing you want when you’re dealing with anxiety or trauma is to sit in traffic on FM 78 or fight construction delays just to get to an appointment.
La telesalud elimina esa barrera por completo.
- Evite el viaje diario: No driving into the Medical Center or navigating rush hour traffic. You can log in from your home office, your parked car, or a quiet spot in your backyard.
- True Privacy: For many in the military or high-profile professions, walking into a local clinic waiting room where you might see a neighbor feels risky. Online counseling ensures your sessions remain private.
- Comodidad: Trauma work can be heavy. Being in your own safe space—with your own blanket, a cup of tea, or your pet nearby—can make it easier to open up and do the work.
Understanding Trauma and PTSD
We often think of PTSD only in terms of combat, but trauma is much broader. It is the body’s emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, assault, natural disaster, or prolonged emotional distress.
You might be experiencing:
- Flashbacks or intrusive thoughts that come out of nowhere.
- Avoidance of certain places or people that remind you of the past.
- Hyperarousal—feeling "on guard" or jumpy, even when you are safe in your home in Deer Creek.
- Changes in mood, such as persistent sadness, irritability, or feeling numb.
These aren't signs of weakness; they are normal reactions to abnormal events. But you don't have to live with them forever.
Mi enfoque hacia la curación
I am a bilingual counselor (fluent in English and Spanish), and I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My approach is rooted in creating safety first. We cannot process pain if you don't feel safe in the present moment.
I use a mix of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and solution-focused techniques, to help you understand how your past is influencing your present. We will work together to:
- Identify your triggers and develop coping strategies.
- Process painful memories at a pace that feels manageable, not overwhelming.
- Rebuild your sense of self and safety.
- reconnect with the things that bring you joy.
I believe that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering the tools and perspective you need to move forward.
