Living in the "Sparkling City by the Sea," there is often an expectation that life should feel as breezy as a walk down the Seawall. We have the bay, the beaches, and a culture that prides itself on resilience. But for many of us living in Corpus Christi, the reality is more complex. The same wind that cools us down can trigger anxiety when hurricane season approaches. The industry that powers our economy—from the refineries to the Port—can demand grueling shift work that leaves little room for processing difficult emotions.
If you are carrying the weight of past trauma or battling the symptoms of PTSD, the view from Ocean Drive doesn’t necessarily make the internal storm go away.
I’m Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I provide online trauma and PTSD counseling specifically for residents of Corpus Christi and the surrounding Coastal Bend area. I help people find their footing again when the ground feels like it’s shifting beneath them.
When "Island Time" Feels Impossible
We often think of trauma as something that only happens in extreme situations, like combat. While that is certainly true—and with NAS Corpus Christi and the Army Depot right here, many of our neighbors know that reality intimately—trauma is also defined by how an event impacts you, not just the event itself.
In Corpus, I see clients dealing with many different sources of deep-seated stress:
- Industrial Stress: If you work the lines at the refineries along "Refinery Row" or handle high-stakes logistics at the Port, you know the pressure is immense. Witnessing accidents or living in a state of hyper-vigilance for safety can result in lasting trauma responses.
- Weather Anxiety: For many, the memory of past storms like Harvey or Hanna isn't just a memory; it’s a physical reaction every time the skies turn gray or the wind picks up.
- Life Transitions: Whether you are a student at TAMU-CC trying to navigate adulthood or a family in Calallen dealing with a sudden loss, the disruption of your safety can leave you feeling stuck.
Trauma often tells you that you aren’t safe, even when you are sitting in your own living room in Flour Bluff o The Bay Area. It might show up as a racing heart, sudden irritability, numbness, or avoiding places that remind you of the pain.
Skip the SPID Traffic and Focus on You
One of the biggest barriers to therapy is simply getting there. In Corpus Christi, "getting there" often means battling the Crosstown Expressway or getting stuck in the construction traffic around the Harbor Bridge.
By offering 100% telehealth services, I remove that friction. You don’t have to worry about:
- Scheduling around a 30-minute commute from The Island o Portland.
- Running into someone you know in a waiting room (Corpus is a big city, but it often feels like a small town where everyone knows everyone).
- Adding "traffic stress" to an already heavy emotional load.
You can join our sessions from your parked car on your lunch break, your home office, or anywhere you feel private and secure.
Healing in Your Native Language (Hablo Español)
Corpus Christi is a city with deep Hispanic roots. Our culture is woven into everything we do, from our food to our families. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, which allows us to conduct therapy in the language that feels most natural to you.
Trauma often resides in the parts of our brain that are pre-verbal or deeply emotional. Sometimes, you need to express pain, anger, or sadness in your first language to truly release it. I provide a space where you don’t have to mentally translate your feelings before speaking them.
My Approach: A Collaborative Path Forward
I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My training includes Terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC), Terapia Breve Centrada en Soluciones (SFBT), and person-centered approaches.
What does that actually look like for you?
- We don't just "talk about the past." While we will process what happened, my main goal is to help you handle the now. We will build coping strategies to manage flashbacks, anxiety spikes, or that feeling of being "on edge."
- We focus on your strengths. You have survived 100% of your bad days so far. We will use psicología positiva to identify the resilience you already have and build on it.
- We move at your pace. There is no timeline for healing. Whether you need to go slow or are ready to dive in, I will walk alongside you.
A Safe Space for the Coastal Bend
Whether you are a veteran in the South Side, a healthcare worker at Christus Spohn o Driscoll, or a parent trying to break generational cycles, you deserve a space where you can be vulnerable without judgment.
I don’t promise to "fix" you, because you aren't broken. You are responding to difficult things that have happened to you. My role is to provide the safety, tools, and perspective you need to reclaim your life.
Ready to take the first step?
Reaching out is often the hardest part, especially when you’re used to holding it all together on your own. If you are ready to explore what life looks like beyond trauma, I would love to hear from you.
I invite you to contact me to discuss how we can work together.
(Note: While I am based in the Houston-Pearland area for in-person work, I am fully licensed to serve clients throughout Corpus Christi and the entire state of Texas via secure video.)
