Living in the "City in a Park" often means being surrounded by well-maintained green spaces and a sense of community that feels distinct from the bustle of Dallas proper. Whether you enjoy walking the trails along Rawhide Creek, spending a quiet afternoon at Gussie Field Watterworth Park, or visiting the Historical Park, Farmers Branch has a unique, slower-paced charm despite being right in the middle of the Metroplex.

But I know that for many people, the peaceful surroundings of our neighborhoods—from the quiet streets of Brookhaven to the newer developments near Mustang Station—don't always match what is happening on the inside. When you are living with the aftereffects of trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the external environment often feels disconnected from your internal reality. You might be standing in a beautiful spot like the Rose Garden, yet feeling an overwhelming sense of panic, detachment, or exhaustion.

My name is Anamile Guerra. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, and I offer online counseling specifically designed to help you navigate these difficult experiences. I provide telehealth services to residents throughout Texas, but I have a particular affinity for helping individuals in communities like Farmers Branch find their footing again without the added stress of commuting to an office.

When the Past Interrupts the Present

Trauma is often misunderstood. We tend to think of it only in terms of combat veterans or catastrophic news events. While those are certainly valid and serious instances, trauma can also stem from car accidents on I-635, difficult childhood experiences, sudden loss, or prolonged workplace stress in the corporate parks that line the tollway.

If you are struggling with PTSD or trauma, you might notice that your body reacts to danger even when you are safe in your home off Marsh Lane or Midway Road. You might experience:

  • Intrusive thoughts or memories: Events from the past replaying in your mind against your will.
  • Evitación: Going out of your way to avoid specific streets, people, or situations that remind you of painful memories.
  • Hipervigilancia: Feeling constantly "on guard," scanning for threats even when you are just trying to buy groceries or relax at home.
  • Entumecimiento emocional: Feeling detached from your partner or family, or losing interest in hobbies you used to love.

These symptoms are not a sign of weakness; they are normal reactions to abnormal events. However, when they persist and stop you from living the life you want, it may be time to seek support.

Why Telehealth Works for Farmers Branch Residents

Farmers Branch is geographically central, which is a massive benefit, but it also means we are surrounded by some of the busiest thoroughfares in Texas. Between the LBJ Freeway (I-635), the Dallas North Tollway, and Stemmons Freeway (I-35E), getting anywhere during rush hour can be an exercise in frustration.

When you are dealing with trauma or high anxiety, sitting in gridlock traffic on Belt Line Road is the last thing you need. It can heighten cortisol levels before you even step into a therapy office.

I offer therapy exclusively via telehealth to remove that barrier.

  • Sin desplazamientos: You don't have to navigate the construction or traffic near the Valwood industrial park or the Galleria area.
  • Comodidad y seguridad: You can engage in deep, sometimes difficult emotional work from the privacy of your own space—whether that’s your living room, a home office, or a quiet parked car.
  • Flexibility: Online sessions often fit better into the schedules of busy professionals, parents, or students who need to squeeze support into a tight day.

A Safe Space for Students and Professionals

Farmers Branch is a diverse city with a unique mix of people. I often work with young adults and students, including those attending the Dallas College Brookhaven Campus. The pressure to succeed academically while navigating early adulthood can be intense, and past emotional wounds can sometimes surface during these transition years.

Similarly, I understand the high-functioning anxiety that often plagues professionals working in the business districts along the tollway. You might be holding it together in boardrooms or on Zoom calls, but crumbling the moment the workday ends.

My practice is built on providing a confidential, judgment-free zone where you can drop the "everything is fine" mask. I utilize an approach that blends Person-Centered Therapy with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). This means we will validate your feelings and experiences, but we will also look for practical tools and strategies to help you cope with triggers and change negative thought patterns.

Bilingual Counseling Services (English & Spanish)

Farmers Branch has a vibrant, culturally rich history, and a significant portion of our community is Hispanic or Latino. Language should never be a barrier to mental healthcare.

I am fluent in both English and Spanish. I understand that when it comes to processing deep emotions or recounting traumatic memories, it is often easier to do so in your native language—or in "Spanglish," if that is how you naturally communicate.

Being able to express yourself fully without having to mentally translate your feelings allows for a deeper therapeutic connection. Whether you or a family member prefers counseling in Spanish, I am here to bridge that gap.

What to Expect from Therapy with Me

I believe that you are the expert on your own life. My role is not to "fix" you, because you are not broken. My role is to walk alongside you as we navigate the path toward healing.

I am an LPC-Associate, which means I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and am pursuing my full licensure under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My educational background, including a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UTRGV, has equipped me to work with adults, older adults, and couples facing a variety of challenges.

In our sessions, we might work on:

  1. Grounding Techniques: Learning how to calm your nervous system when you feel triggered or anxious.
  2. Narrative Processing: Safely exploring the story of what happened to you at a pace you can handle.
  3. Reclaiming Safety: Identifying what safety looks like for you now, in your current environment in Farmers Branch.
  4. Strengths-Based Growth: Using Positive Psychology to rediscover the resilience you already possess.
