Terapeuta LatinX

Living in Killeen comes with a specific kind of rhythm. Whether you are waking up to the sound of reveille echoing from Fort Cavazos, navigating the rush hour traffic along the Central Texas Expressway, or studying late at night near Texas A&M-Central Texas, life here is often fast-paced and demanding. We are a community defined by resilience, often centered around service and family.

But sometimes, that pressure to be resilient—to "drive on" regardless of what you are feeling—can cause us to bury deep emotional wounds. Trauma and PTSD don't always look like they do in the movies. Sometimes, it’s a quiet, gnawing anxiety that keeps you up at night in White Rock Estates. Other times, it’s a sudden flash of anger while you’re stuck in traffic on Stan Schlueter Loop, or a heavy fog of detachment that makes it hard to connect with your partner or children.

I am Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I offer online therapy to help residents of Killeen and the surrounding Central Texas area navigate the complexities of trauma and PTSD. My goal is to help you find a sense of safety and balance again, all from the privacy of your own home.

Understanding Trauma in the Heart of Central Texas

Killeen is unique. We are a melting pot of cultures, largely driven by the military presence next door, but we are also a growing city of students, retirees, and young professionals. Because of our environment, the concept of trauma here is often associated strictly with combat. While I absolutely work with individuals navigating the aftermath of deployment or service-related experiences, trauma is a human experience, not just a military one.

Trauma can stem from a variety of sources:

  • Past abuse or neglect in childhood.
  • Sudden loss or grief.
  • Accidents or medical emergencies.
  • Relationship violence.
  • Systemic discrimination or marginalization.

In a city that prides itself on toughness, admitting that you are struggling can feel like a weakness. You might feel the need to keep up appearances when you’re out at the Killeen Mall or grabbing dinner in Harker Heights. You might worry that acknowledging your pain means you aren't "strong enough."

I want to challenge that narrative. Acknowledging that you are hurting is the first step toward healing. It takes immense courage to look at the things that have hurt you and decide that you want a different future for yourself.

Why Online Therapy Works for Killeen Residents

One of the biggest hurdles to seeking help in Bell County is simply the logistics of getting to an appointment. Killeen is sprawling. If you live out near Saegert Ranch or closer to the airport, driving across town to a physical office during peak hours can add unnecessary stress to your day. The congestion on I-14/US-190 is often the last thing you want to deal with before or after a vulnerable therapy session.

I provide telehealth counseling throughout Texas, which means you can access professional support without the commute.

Privacy and Discretion

In a community as tight-knit as ours, anonymity can be a concern. You might be worried about running into a colleague, a fellow student, or a neighbor in a waiting room. With online counseling, your "waiting room" is your living room, your parked car, or a private office. You control your environment. This is particularly valuable for professionals or service members who prefer to keep their mental health care strictly private.

Accessibility for Everyone

I work with adults, older adults, and couples. Whether you are a student at Central Texas College trying to balance coursework with past emotional weight, or a retiree trying to make sense of a lifetime of experiences, telehealth allows us to connect where you are most comfortable.

Additionally, I am a bilingual counselor, fluent in both English and Spanish. Killeen has a vibrant Hispanic community, and I understand that when it comes to processing deep emotions or traumatic memories, being able to speak in your native language can make a profound difference. I want you to feel understood in every sense of the word.

My Approach to Healing Trauma

I practice under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My approach to therapy is not about "fixing" you, because you are not broken. It is about understanding how your experiences have shaped your reactions and finding new ways to move forward.

When we work together, I integrate several evidence-based approaches tailored to your specific needs:

Creating a Safe Foundation
Before we dive into the deep work, we establish safety. Trauma often leaves your nervous system in a state of high alert—always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Using Person-Centered Therapy, I focus on building a relationship based on trust, empathy, and lack of judgment. You set the pace. We do not go where you are not ready to go.

Changing the Narrative
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help us look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Trauma can create negative thought loops (e.g., "I am not safe," "It was my fault," "I can't trust anyone"). Together, we can gently challenge these thoughts and work on reframing them into something more balanced and realistic.

Focusing on Solutions and Strengths
Using Positive Psychology and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), we will also look at what es working in your life. Even in the midst of pain, you have survived. You have strengths that have gotten you this far. We will identify those strengths and use them as tools to build the future you want.

What to Expect From Our Sessions

If you have never tried therapy before, or if you have had negative experiences in the past, it is normal to feel apprehensive.

In our sessions, there is no pressure to "perform." You don't have to have the right words. Some days, we might focus on processing a specific memory. Other days, we might focus entirely on coping skills—breathing techniques to manage panic attacks, strategies to handle dissociation, or ways to communicate your needs to your partner.

For my clients in Killeen, specifically, we often talk about how to maintain boundaries in a demanding environment. We might discuss how to navigate the transition from military to civilian life, or how to handle the stressors of a high-paced job while trying to heal.

My role is to walk alongside you. I cannot erase the past, and I cannot guarantee a specific outcome, but I can promise to provide a supportive, confidential space where you do not have to carry the weight alone.

Dando el siguiente paso

Living with untreated trauma can feel like carrying a heavy rucksack that you can never take off. It affects your sleep, your health, your relationships, and your ability to enjoy the life you’ve built here in Central Texas.

You don't have to wait until you are at a breaking point to reach out. Whether you are in the Historic District, out by Trimmier Road, or anywhere else in the Killeen area, support is available.

If you are ready to explore what healing could look like for you, or if you simply have questions about how online therapy works, I invite you to contact me. Let’s work together to help you reclaim your peace of mind and discover your full potential.
