Terapeuta LatinX

Living in West Texas, we pride ourselves on resilience. There is a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” spirit here in the Hub City that runs deep—from the cotton fields to the classrooms at Texas Tech. We are used to weathering the storms, whether it’s a sudden dust storm rolling in over the Llano Estacado or the shifting economic winds that affect our local industries.

But sometimes, “toughing it out” isn’t enough.

If you are reading this, you might be carrying a weight that no amount of grit can shake off. Trauma and PTSD don’t care how strong you are; they are injuries to the emotional system that require care, not just willpower. My name is Anamile Guerra, and I provide online counseling to help Lubbock residents process their past and find a clearer path forward.

Finding Support in the “Hub City”

Lubbock has a unique energy. It feels like a big city when you’re stuck in traffic on the Marsha Sharp Freeway or Loop 289, but it feels like a small town when you run into three people you know at the United Supermarkets on 82nd.

This duality can make seeking help complicated. You might feel the pressure to maintain a composed exterior for your colleagues at UMC or Covenant Health, or perhaps you’re a student in Tech Terrace trying to balance academic stress with memories you can’t quite silence.

Trauma doesn’t always look like it does in the movies. In our community, I often see it manifest in quiet ways:

  • Hipervigilancia: Feeling unsafe or on edge, even when you are sitting quietly in a park like Mackenzie or Maxey.
  • Evitación: Driving miles out of your way to avoid the site of a car accident on the Loop.
  • Entumecimiento: Feeling disconnected from your family in Wolfforth or King’s Park, watching life happen around you but not feeling part of it.
  • Burnout: For our healthcare and agricultural workers, the cumulative stress of high-stakes environments can eventually turn into traumatic stress.

Why Telehealth Works for Lubbock

I know that in a city like ours, privacy and convenience matter. Online therapy allows us to do deep, meaningful work without the logistical headaches.

Privacy is Paramount
Lubbock is friendly, but sometimes you want your business to stay yours. By meeting online, you don’t have to worry about bumping into a neighbor, a student, or a parishioner in a waiting room. You can process difficult emotions from the privacy of your own home, whether you’re out in Lakeridge or near the Depot District.

Skip the Commute
While we don’t have big-city gridlock, construction on the Loop or game-day traffic near the stadium can still turn a 15-minute drive into a 45-minute ordeal. Telehealth removes that barrier. You don’t have to rush across town after work; you just log in.

Understanding Trauma and PTSD

Trauma is not just about “what happened to you.” It’s about how your body and mind reacted to what happened, and how they continue to react today.

You might find yourself snapping at loved ones, struggling to sleep, or feeling an exhaustion that coffee can’t fix. This isn’t because you are broken; it’s because your nervous system is stuck in survival mode.

In our sessions, we won’t just talk about the pain; we will look for ways to help your nervous system relearn safety. We move at your pace. You are in the driver’s seat, and I am there to help navigate the road map.

Mi enfoque hacia la curación

I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. My work is supervised by Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S.

I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process. I don’t sit back and just nod; I work with you to find practical tools that fit your life. My approach draws from several evidence-based methods:

  • Terapia centrada en la persona: I provide a non-judgmental space where you can be exactly who you are, without the pressure to perform.
  • Terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC): We look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to break cycles of anxiety.
  • Terapia Breve Centrada en Soluciones (SFBT): We identify your existing strengths—that West Texas resilience—and use them to build the future you want.

Whether you prefer to speak in English or Spanish, my goal is to ensure you feel heard and understood in your preferred language.
