Living in San Antonio means navigating a city of contrasts. We are "Military City USA" and a hub for world-class healthcare, yet we also face the unique pressures that come with rapid growth and a sprawling landscape. Whether you are dealing with the aftermath of a deployment, the burnout of working shifts at the South Texas Medical Center, or personal trauma that feels heavier by the day, finding support shouldn't add to your stress.
My name is Anamile Guerra, and I am a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I offer online trauma and PTSD counseling to help you heal without the hassle of a commute.
Finding Calm in a Busy City
San Antonio has a rhythm all its own. From the historic quiet of the King William District to the bustling energy of The Pearl and the expanding neighborhoods of Stone Oak, our city is vibrant. But that growth brings challenges.
If you’ve driven through the construction nightmare at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange lately, or tried to cross town on Loop 410 during rush hour, you know that "just driving to an appointment" is rarely simple.
For someone already carrying the weight of trauma or anxiety, sitting in gridlock on the way to a therapy session is the last thing you need. That is why I focus on telesalud. I want our time together to be about your healing, not about whether you’ll find parking or make it back to work on time.
Trauma Doesn’t Always Look Like It Does in the Movies
When we hear "PTSD," we often think of combat. And in a city with such a proud military presence—home to Lackland, Fort Sam Houston, and Randolph—that is a very real part of our community's experience. I deeply respect and support our service members and their families who carry these invisible burdens.
However, trauma is not limited to the battlefield. In San Antonio, I see clients from all walks of life dealing with:
- Occupational Burnout: Especially among nurses, doctors, and support staff in the Medical Center who have faced relentless pressure over the last few years.
- Family & Generational Trauma: Breaking cycles of pain that have persisted for decades.
- Accidents and Sudden Loss: Life-altering events that make it hard to feel safe again.
- Complex PTSD: The result of ongoing stress or abuse, where "fight or flight" feels like your permanent setting.
You might feel constantly on edge, struggle to sleep, or find yourself snapping at loved ones for small things. These are not signs of weakness; they are normal responses to abnormal events.
A Bicultural Approach for a Bilingual City
San Antonio is the heart of Hispanic culture in Texas. I am fluent in both Inglés y español, which allows me to offer a space where you can express yourself in the language that feels most natural to you.
For many of us who grew up in Latino households, there can be a stigma around mental health—a feeling that we should keep problems "in the family" or that we just need to be tougher. I understand those cultural nuances. In our sessions, you don’t have to translate your emotions or explain why certain family dynamics are complicated. I get it.
Whether you live in the West Side, Alamo Heights, or out near Helotes, I provide a judgment-free zone where your culture and your mental health can coexist.
How We Work Together
I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My approach is grounded in evidence-based methods, but I keep our conversations down-to-earth.
We will move at your pace. I often use Terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC) to help you spot the negative thought patterns that trauma leaves behind. We might also use Terapia Breve Centrada en Soluciones (SFBT) o Psicología Positiva to help you reconnect with the strengths you already have—even if you feel like you’ve lost them.
Our goal isn't just to "talk about it." It is to give you practical tools to manage the anxiety, process the painful memories, and reclaim your life.
Why Choose Online Counseling?
- Privacidad: If you live in a tight-knit community, you might worry about running into a neighbor in a waiting room. Telehealth offers complete confidentiality from your own home.
- Conveniencia: Skip the drive down I-35. Log in from your office, your car, or your living room.
- Accessibility: Whether you are in San Antonio proper or in a surrounding area like Boerne or New Braunfels, quality care is just a click away.
No tienes que hacer esto solo
Reaching out is the hardest step. It takes courage to say, "I’m not okay," especially in a culture that values resilience. But you don't have to carry the weight of trauma, anxiety, or depression by yourself.
I work with adults, older adults, and couples who are ready to find balance again. If you are ready to start that journey, or if you just have questions about how online therapy works, I invite you to connect with me.
I’d love to hear from you. Let’s talk about how we can get you back to feeling like yourself.
