Living in “The Great Place” comes with a unique rhythm. Whether you are stationed at Fort Cavazos, studying at Central Texas College, or raising a family in White Rock Estates, life here moves fast. Killeen is a city of constant motion—people PCSing in and out, traffic backing up on the Central Texas Expressway, and the pressure to keep everything together while the world around you keeps changing.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, restless, or constantly on edge, you aren’t alone. Anxiety often creeps in when we are trying our hardest to stay strong for everyone else.
I’m Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I provide virtual anxiety therapy to help you find your footing again. My goal is to offer a space where you can pause, breathe, and work through the stress without having to fight traffic on Stan Schlueter Loop to get there.
When “Hurry Up and Wait” Becomes Too Much
Killeen is a resilient community, but that resilience often comes at a cost. The culture here is deeply tied to the military lifestyle, even for civilians. There is a pervading sense of urgency mixed with uncertainty—waiting for orders, waiting for a spouse to return, or just waiting for the next big life transition.
You might notice anxiety showing up in your daily life as:
- Constant worry about the future, especially regarding housing or career moves.
- Physical tension that you can’t shake, even when you’re relaxing at home in Bridgewood or Spanish Oaks.
- Irritability that snaps out at loved ones, even when you don’t mean it.
- Social withdrawal, where you avoid gathering with friends or neighbors because it feels like too much effort.
Maybe you’re a student at Texas A&M University-Central Texas trying to balance coursework with a job, or you’re working in the medical field at a local clinic and feeling burnout creeping in. Anxiety doesn’t look the same for everyone, but the feeling of being “stuck” is universal.
Why Killeen Residents Choose Online Therapy
Let’s be honest: driving in Killeen can be a major stressor in itself. Between the congestion on I-14 and the school zone slowdowns near Timber Ridge, adding a commute to a therapy appointment is the last thing you need.
Virtual therapy fits into your life, not the other way around.
- Skip the Traffic: You don’t have to dodge construction on Rosewood or sit at endless lights on Fort Hood Street. We meet wherever you are comfortable.
- Privacy: In a town where everyone seems to know everyone—especially within military circles—walking into a local clinic can feel exposing. Telehealth offers a private, confidential space within your own home.
- Flexibility: Whether you are on a lunch break from work or the kids are finally asleep, we can fit a session into your schedule.
A Space to Speak Freely (In English or Spanish)
One of the things I love about Killeen is its diversity. It is a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds. However, finding a therapist who truly understands your language and culture can sometimes be a challenge.
I am fluent in both English and Spanish. If you feel more comfortable expressing your emotions in Spanish, or if you find yourself switching between languages when you are stressed, that is completely welcome in our sessions. You shouldn’t have to translate your feelings to be understood.
My Approach to Anxiety
I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” fix. You are more than your anxiety. I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S, and I use evidence-based methods to help you regain control.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We look at the racing thoughts keeping you up at night. By identifying negative patterns, we can start to dismantle them and replace them with more balanced perspectives.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): Sometimes you need immediate relief. We focus on what is working in your life and how to build on those strengths to solve current problems.
- Person-Centered Care: Above all, I offer a non-judgmental ear. Whether you need to vent about a toxic workplace or process deep-seated fears, I am here to listen without bias.
Who I Work With
The Military Community
You don’t have to be active duty to feel the weight of the uniform. Spouses and partners often carry the invisible load of household management, single-parenting during rotations, and the emotional roller coaster of reintegration. I provide a safe harbor to unpack those specific stressors.
Students and Young Professionals
From the hallways of Killeen ISD schools to the lecture halls at CTC, the pressure to succeed is high. If you are navigating early adulthood, career changes, or academic burnout, we can work on strategies to quiet the noise and focus on your goals.
The “Strong” Ones
Many of my clients are the people everyone else relies on. You might be the rock for your family, but who is the rock for you? In therapy, you don’t have to be strong. You just have to be real.
Let’s Start the Conversation
You might have tried to “tough it out” or distract yourself with trips to Dana Peak Park or retail therapy at the mall, but anxiety has a way of lingering until it is addressed. You don’t have to carry it alone anymore.
I invite you to reach out. Let’s talk about what you are going through and how we can get you back to feeling like yourself again.
I am currently accepting new clients for virtual sessions across Texas.
