Living in the “City on the Grow” comes with a unique energy. Whether you are navigating the morning rush on Expressway 83, working a long shift at Knapp Medical Center, or managing a household in Tierra Santa, life in Weslaco moves faster than it used to.

While our community is known for its resilience and friendly spirit—from the quiet trails of Estero Llano Grande to the bustle of Texas Boulevard—many of us still find ourselves silently carrying the weight of anxiety. You might be the person everyone relies on, the one who always says “I’m fine,” while your mind races with worry the moment you finally sit down.

I’m Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I help adults, couples, and seniors in Weslaco and across the Rio Grande Valley navigate anxiety without the need to commute to a physical office.

Finding Calm in the Mid-Valley

Weslaco is the heart of the Valley, which is a blessing, but it can also mean you feel pulled in every direction—literally. You might be commuting west to McAllen or east to Harlingen for work, dealing with the traffic construction that never seems to end, or just trying to keep up with the rapid changes in our own neighborhoods like Westgate or Southgate Woods.

It is easy to feel like you have to keep moving to survive. But when that “go-go-go” mentality turns into constant tension, sleepless nights, or a feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach, it may be time to pause.

Anxiety often shows up as:

  • Overthinking: Replaying conversations or worrying about future “what ifs.”
  • Physical Tension: tightness in your chest, headaches, or exhaustion even after sleeping.
  • Irritability: Snapping at loved ones when you don’t mean to.
  • Avoidance: Procrastinating on tasks or skipping social events because it just feels like “too much.”

Why Virtual Therapy Works for Weslaco

For many of my clients in the Mid-Valley, adding another drive to their weekly schedule is the last thing they need. You shouldn’t have to fight traffic on I-2 or worry about running into someone you know in a waiting room to get the support you deserve.

Telehealth allows us to meet wherever you feel most safe and comfortable.

  • Privacy: meaningful conversations happen from your parked car on your lunch break or your living room after the kids are asleep.
  • Convenience: No driving to a clinic. You log in, we talk, and you get back to your day.
  • Comfort: It is often easier to open up when you are in your own space, wearing comfortable clothes, with your own coffee or tea in hand.

A Bilingual Space for Healing

Living in the Valley means our lives are often a blend of cultures and languages. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, and I know that sometimes, feelings don’t translate perfectly into just one language.

In our sessions, you are welcome to speak however feels most natural to you. Whether that is full English, Spanish, or the “Spanglish” that creates the rhythm of our daily lives here in South Texas, I want you to feel heard and understood without having to filter your thoughts.

My Approach to Anxiety

I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” fix. You are the expert on your life; I am here to provide the tools and perspective to help you navigate it.

I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My approach integrates several evidence-based methods tailored to your specific needs:

  • Person-Centered Therapy: We build a relationship based on trust and empathy. I provide a judgment-free zone where you can be your authentic self.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By spotting unhelpful thought patterns, we can start to change how you react to stress.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): We focus on your strengths and what is already working, helping you build practical steps toward the future you want.

Whether you are a student at the STC Mid-Valley campus feeling the pressure of grades, a healthcare professional facing burnout, or a retiree adjusting to a new chapter of life, we will work together to find coping strategies that actually fit your lifestyle.

Let’s Connect

Taking the first step is often the hardest part. You might be thinking that your anxiety “isn’t that bad” or that you should be able to handle it on your own. But you don’t have to carry it alone.

I would love to support you in finding more balance and peace. If you are ready to explore what therapy could look like for you, I invite you to reach out.

I am currently accepting new virtual clients in Weslaco and throughout Texas.
