Living in the “American Dream City” comes with a unique kind of energy. Arlington is a place of massive scale—from the roaring crowds at AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field to the busy lecture halls at UTA. It is a city that is constantly moving, constantly growing, and always buzzing with activity.

But when you are carrying the weight of trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), that external buzz can feel incredibly isolating. While everyone else seems to be cheering for the Cowboys or enjoying a weekend at Six Flags, you might feel like you are just trying to survive the day.

If you are finding it hard to move past difficult experiences, or if your past feels like it is constantly intruding on your present, I want you to know that you are not broken. You are having a normal reaction to abnormal events, and you do not have to navigate it alone. My name is Anamile Guerra, and I offer online counseling to help residents of Arlington regain their footing.

When the Past Won’t Stay in the Past

We often think of PTSD as something that only happens to combat veterans returning from deployment. While that is certainly a valid and serious form of trauma, the reality is much broader. Trauma is the emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, a sudden loss, abuse, or prolonged periods of high stress.

In a fast-paced city like Arlington, we are often taught to “tough it out.” You might be a student at the University of Texas at Arlington facing immense pressure, a healthcare professional at Texas Health Arlington Memorial seeing difficult things daily, or an employee at the GM Assembly Plant trying to push through a shift while your mind is elsewhere.

You might notice signs like:

  • Intrusive thoughts: Memories that pop up when you least expect them, perhaps while driving down Cooper Street or trying to focus on work.
  • Avoidance: Going out of your way to avoid specific places, people, or situations that remind you of the event.
  • Hyperarousal: Feeling constantly on edge, jumpy, or easily irritated—like you can never truly relax, even when you are safe at home in Viridian or Dalworthington Gardens.
  • Emotional numbness: Feeling detached from your partner or family, or struggling to feel joy in things you used to love.

These symptoms are your brain’s way of trying to protect you, but over time, they can shrink your world. Therapy provides a space to process these experiences safely so they no longer control your life.

Why Online Therapy Works for Arlington Residents

I know that the idea of adding one more appointment to your schedule can feel overwhelming, especially when you consider Arlington traffic. Whether it is the construction on I-30, the gridlock near the Entertainment District on game days, or the slow crawl down South Collins, getting across town is rarely quick.

This is why I focus on providing telehealth services. By meeting online, we remove the logistical barriers to getting help.

  • Skip the Commute: You don’t have to worry about getting stuck in traffic on I-20 or finding parking. We can meet wherever you are most comfortable.
  • Privacy and Comfort: For many people dealing with trauma, entering a waiting room can be anxiety-inducing. Telehealth allows you to create your own safe environment, whether that’s a private office, a quiet corner of your apartment, or even your parked car during a lunch break.
  • Accessibility: Whether you live in North Arlington, near Lake Arlington, or closer to the Mansfield border, my virtual door is open to you.

A Bilingual, culturally Sensitive Approach

Arlington is one of the most diverse cities in Texas, a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds. I am proud to be a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, offering sessions in both English and Spanish.

Language is deeply tied to emotion. For many people, describing traumatic events or deep feelings is easier in their native language. If you grew up in a Spanish-speaking household, or if Spanish is simply the language of your heart, we can conduct our sessions in the way that feels most natural to you. You shouldn’t have to translate your pain for your therapist to understand it.

My Therapeutic Approach

I work under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. My goal is to create a collaborative, non-judgmental partnership with you. I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” method, especially when it comes to trauma.

In our sessions, I draw from several evidence-based approaches to tailor our work to your needs:

  • Person-Centered Therapy: This means I follow your lead. You are the expert on your own life. I am here to provide the empathy and unconditional support you need to explore your feelings safely.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We will look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Often, trauma creates negative thought loops. We can work together to identify these patterns and develop healthier ways of thinking.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): While we will honor and process your past, we will also focus on your strengths and your hopes for the future. We will identify practical steps you can take right now to improve your quality of life.

Reclaiming Your Peace in the Mid-Cities

Whether you enjoy the quiet trails of River Legacy Parks or the hustle of The Highlands, you deserve to be present in your own life. Trauma often steals us away from the present moment, keeping us trapped in “what happened” or worrying about “what if.”

Counseling is about learning how to feel safe in your body again. It is about learning that while you cannot change what happened to you, you can change how it affects your today and your tomorrow.

I work with adults (18+), older adults, and couples. If your relationship has been strained by the effects of PTSD or unhealed trauma, we can work together to rebuild communication and trust.

Let’s Connect

Taking the first step is often the hardest part of the journey. It requires courage to admit that you are hurting and even more courage to ask for help. I deeply respect that bravery.

You don’t have to carry this weight forever. If you are in Arlington or the surrounding DFW area and are ready to explore what healing looks like for you, I invite you to reach out. I would be honored to walk alongside you as you move toward a more balanced, peaceful life.

Please contact me today to schedule a free consultation or to ask any questions you might have about the process. Let’s work together to help you find your way forward.
