LatinX Therapist

Living in Austin often means balancing a vibrant, fast-paced lifestyle with the unique pressures that come with a rapidly growing city. Whether you are navigating the corporate intensity of the "Silicon Hills" tech sector, pursuing your degree near the UT campus, or watching your quiet neighborhood in East Austin transform before your eyes, life here is dynamic.

But for many of us, the external buzz of the city doesn't match our internal reality. When you are carrying the weight of past trauma or battling the symptoms of PTSD, the live music venues on Red River or the paddle boarders on Lady Bird Lake can feel a million miles away from your emotional experience.

My name is Anamile Guerra, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I offer online counseling specifically for residents of Austin and the surrounding areas. My goal is to help you process painful experiences and regain your footing without the need to navigate Austin’s notorious traffic to find support.

When the Past Interrupts the Present

We often think of trauma as a single, dramatic event. While it certainly can be, trauma also accumulates in the quiet corners of our lives. It might be a difficult childhood in a chaotic home, a sudden loss, or a distressing relationship history that leaves you feeling unsafe even when you are technically secure.

In a city like Austin, where the culture emphasizes keeping things weird, creative, and active, it can be isolating to feel stuck in a loop of anxiety or vigilance. You might find yourself:

  • Feeling on edge or easily startled, even when you are relaxing at home in Hyde Park or Mueller.
  • Avoiding certain places, people, or situations that trigger painful memories.
  • Experiencing swift mood changes or irritability that impacts your relationships or your work performance.
  • Struggling to sleep or disconnect, perhaps finding that the high-performance culture at work exacerbates your internal stress.

If this sounds familiar, I want you to know that you are not broken. These are normal responses to abnormal situations, and together, we can work through them.

Why Telehealth Makes Sense for Austin

Let’s be honest about one of the biggest hurdles to self-care in this city: the commute.

If you live in North Austin near The Domain but find a therapist you like in South Austin or West Lake Hills, you are looking at a stressful drive down Mopac or navigating the gridlock of I-35. By the time you arrive at an office, your stress levels might be higher than when you left the house.

I provide therapy exclusively via telehealth for my clients in Austin. This means we meet on a secure video platform, allowing you to prioritize your mental health without battling rush hour traffic on the loop.

  • Consistency: It is much easier to keep a weekly appointment when you don’t have to factor in 45 minutes of travel time each way.
  • Privacy: For professionals working in high-profile industries or close-knit communities, sitting in a waiting room can feel exposing. Online therapy offers a layer of privacy that many of my clients appreciate.
  • Comfort: Trauma work can be heavy. Being in your own space—whether that’s a quiet room in your apartment or a private spot in your home office—often allows you to feel safer and open up more readily.

My Approach to Healing

I believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. We are all shaped by our environments, our cultures, and our unique histories.

In our sessions, I draw from Person-Centered Therapy, which means I follow your lead. I am not here to tell you what to do or to "fix" you. Instead, I provide a non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts without fear of criticism.

We may also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps us look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. For trauma survivors, this can be incredibly empowering. It helps us identify the automatic negative thoughts ("I am not safe," "It was my fault") and gently challenge them, replacing them with more balanced perspectives.

Additionally, I utilize Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Positive Psychology. While it is vital to process the past, it is equally important to build a vision for your future. We will identify the strengths you already possess—the resilience that has gotten you this far—and use them to build the life you want.

Bilingual Counseling Services (English & Spanish)

Austin is a diverse city with a rich cultural tapestry. As a bilingual counselor fluent in both English and Spanish, I am proud to offer services in both languages.

For those who grew up in bilingual households or for whom Spanish is their first language, there are often emotional nuances that are difficult to translate. Trauma, in particular, is often stored in the language it was experienced in. Being able to switch between languages or express deep emotions in your native tongue can be a crucial part of the healing process.

A Safe Space for All

I work with adults of all ages, including older adults who may be navigating life transitions, and couples looking to strengthen their bond.

I practice under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S. This ensures that our work together is supported by a wealth of clinical experience and professional oversight.

Whether you are a student feeling overwhelmed, a tech professional facing burnout, or a long-time resident adjusting to the city’s changes, my virtual door is open. I strive to create an environment where you feel heard, validated, and supported.

Moving Forward

Taking the first step toward therapy is an act of courage. It is an acknowledgment that you deserve to feel better and that you don't have to carry the weight of your experiences alone.

You don't need to wait until you are in a crisis to reach out. Whether you are dealing with distinct PTSD symptoms or a general sense of heaviness that you can't quite shake, we can navigate it together.

I invite you to contact me to discuss how we can work together. Let’s help you find a sense of balance and peace, so you can get back to enjoying everything living in Central Texas has to offer.
