Living in the Golden Triangle requires a certain kind of resilience. Between the heat, the hard work that powers our local industries, and the history of weathering storms—quite literally—people here know how to push through. Whether you are studying late nights at Lamar University, working long shifts at the refineries near the Neches River, or keeping a family running in the West End, the pressure to "just keep going" can be immense.
But resilience doesn't mean you have to carry heavy burdens alone. Sometimes, past experiences, accidents, or deep-seated fears can stick with us long after the event is over. If you are finding it hard to move forward, or if memories of the past are intruding on your present, I am here to help. My name is Anamile Guerra, and I provide online counseling to help you navigate trauma and PTSD from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
Understanding Trauma in Southeast Texas
When people hear "PTSD," they often think only of military veterans returning from service. While that is certainly valid, trauma is much broader. In a place like Beaumont, trauma can look like many things.
It might be the lingering anxiety every time a heavy rain starts to fall, bringing back memories of Harvey or Imelda. It could be the result of a serious accident on I-10 or Eastex Freeway. For others, it stems from difficult childhood experiences, relationship abuse, or a sudden loss.
Trauma changes how we view the world. You might feel constantly on edge, waiting for the "other shoe to drop." You might find yourself avoiding certain places—like driving down Calder Avenue or avoiding crowds at the SETX State Fair—because they trigger panic. You might simply feel numb, disconnected from the people you love.
In my practice, I work with adults who are trying to make sense of these feelings. You are not "broken." Your brain is simply trying to protect you based on what it has learned from the past. My goal is to help you process those experiences so they no longer control your daily life.
Why Telehealth Works for Beaumont
I know that life in Beaumont is busy. If you are working a turnaround schedule at the plants or managing a hectic class load, adding a commute to a therapy office can feel like one obstacle too many.
Telehealth eliminates the drive. You don't have to worry about traffic on Phelan Boulevard or finding parking downtown. Instead, we can meet wherever you feel safe and comfortable.
Privacy and Convenience
Beaumont is a big city with a small-town feel. Everyone seems to know everyone, especially in neighborhoods like Old Town or Gladys City. For many of my clients, the idea of sitting in a local waiting room where they might run into a neighbor, a colleague, or a former teacher is a source of anxiety.
Online counseling offers a layer of privacy that in-person sessions often cannot. You can log in from a private room in your home, your parked car during a lunch break, or anywhere else you have a stable internet connection.
Fitting Into Your Schedule
I know that the industrial rhythm of the Golden Triangle doesn't always stick to a 9-to-5 schedule. Telehealth allows us to fit therapy into your life, rather than forcing your life to pause for therapy. Whether you are a parent in the Oaks Historic District needing a session while the kids are napping, or a professional needing support without leaving your office, online therapy bridges that gap.
My Approach to Healing
I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process. I am not here to tell you what to do; I am here to walk alongside you. I operate as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), supervised by Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S.
My approach is grounded in creating a safe, non-judgmental space. I am bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish, which allows me to serve the diverse community of Beaumont effectively. If you feel more comfortable expressing difficult emotions in Spanish, we can do that.
Tools for Change
I use a blend of therapeutic styles to suit your specific needs:
- Person-Centered Therapy: This is the foundation of our work. It means I listen to you with empathy and without judgment. You are the expert on your own life.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This helps us look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Often, trauma creates negative thought loops. We work together to identify and gently challenge them.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): While we honor the past, we also want to improve your future. This approach focuses on finding practical solutions and building on the strengths you already possess.
- Positive Psychology: We will look for the resilience and resources you already have within you—the same grit that defines this region—and use them to foster growth.
Navigating "Storm Anxiety" and Environmental Stress
I want to specifically address something unique to our part of Texas. It is very common here to experience intense anxiety related to weather. If you find your heart racing during a thunderstorm or find yourself obsessively checking the tropical weather outlooks, you are not being "silly."
Weather-related trauma is real, especially after the major flooding events Beaumont has seen in the last decade. We can work on specific coping strategies to help ground you when these environmental triggers arise, helping you regain a sense of safety even when things feel unpredictable.
What to Expect in Our Sessions
Starting therapy can be intimidating. I want to demystify the process.
When we first meet, we will spend time getting to know each other. I want to hear your story—at your own pace. You never have to share more than you are ready to share. We will talk about what you hope to achieve. Do you want to sleep better? Do you want to feel less irritable with your spouse? Do you simply want to understand why you feel this way?
From there, we will build a roadmap together. Some days we might focus on practical coping skills—breathing techniques or grounding exercises you can use when you feel overwhelmed at work or at home. Other days, we might explore deeper feelings.
A Space for Everyone
I work with adults of all ages, from students at Lamar navigating young adulthood to retirees in the West End adjusting to a new phase of life. I also work with couples who may be finding that individual trauma is affecting their relationship dynamic.
No matter your background, my virtual door is open.
