Living in Dallas often means keeping up a certain pace. Whether you are climbing the corporate ladder in Uptown, managing a bustling family home in Lake Highlands, or navigating the creative energy of Deep Ellum, there is a pressure to keep moving forward. "Big D" is a city of ambition and growth, but for many of us, that forward momentum can mask deep, unresolved pain.
If you are reading this, you might be feeling that contrast right now—the disconnect between the busy, polished exterior of your life and the internal struggle you carry every day.
My name is Anamile Guerra. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, and I help adults and couples in Dallas navigate trauma, PTSD, and the heavy emotional weight that often comes with it. Through secure, online therapy, I offer a space where you can finally slow down and heal, without the stress of adding another commute to your day.
When "Moving On" Doesn't Work
Trauma has a way of staying with us long after the event itself has passed. In a city like Dallas, where resilience and "grit" are often celebrated, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you should just be able to "power through." You might tell yourself that what happened wasn't that bad, or that you should be over it by now.
But trauma doesn't respond to logic, and it certainly doesn't care about your schedule. It can show up as:
- Sudden irritability when you’re stuck in traffic on US-75 or the Dallas North Tollway.
- A sense of panic in crowded places, perhaps avoiding the State Fair or feeling on edge at NorthPark Center.
- Numbness or detachment that makes it hard to connect with your partner or friends, even when you're out having dinner in Bishop Arts.
- Flashbacks or intrusive thoughts that interrupt your focus at work.
You don't have to wait for a crisis to seek support. Whether your experience stems from a specific event, a difficult childhood, or cumulative stress over time, your pain is valid, and you don't have to carry it alone.
Why Dallas Residents Choose Online Therapy
Let’s be honest: logistics are a major barrier to mental health care in the Metroplex. The thought of driving from Oak Cliff to North Dallas, or fighting the gridlock on I-635 (LBJ) just to make a 5:00 PM appointment, can be enough to make anyone cancel.
Telehealth eliminates that barrier. It allows us to do the deep, important work of therapy without the "Mixmaster" stress.
Benefits of Online Counseling for Dallas Clients:
- Consistency: It is much easier to keep a weekly appointment when you don’t have to account for unpredictable accidents on I-35E.
- Privacy: You can meet from the comfort of your home or a private office. There is no risk of running into a colleague or neighbor in a waiting room in Highland Park or Addison.
- Comfort: Trauma work can be heavy. Being in your own safe space—with your own blanket, tea, or pet nearby—can make it easier to open up and process difficult emotions.
I am physically based in the Houston area, but my license covers the entire state of Texas. This allows me to bring high-quality, specialized care directly to you in Dallas, bypassing the traffic entirely.
My Approach to Healing
I believe that therapy is not about "fixing" you, because you are not broken. It is about uncovering your strengths and helping you process the experiences that have shaped your view of the world.
I operate from a person-centered perspective, which means I view you as the expert on your own life. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely.
Integrating Evidence-Based Techniques
While I offer a supportive listening ear, I also use structured, evidence-based approaches to help you make practical changes.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We will look at how your thoughts influence your feelings and behaviors. This is particularly helpful for breaking the cycle of negative self-talk that often accompanies PTSD.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): We will identify what is working in your life and how to build on those successes to achieve your goals.
- Positive Psychology: We will focus not just on reducing symptoms, but on cultivating well-being, resilience, and a sense of meaning.
Bilingual Services (English & Spanish)
Dallas is a diverse, multicultural hub. Language should never be a barrier to expressing your deepest emotions. I am fluent in both English and Spanish and offer therapy in both languages. For many clients, being able to process trauma in their native language—or the language they grew up speaking at home—allows for a deeper, more authentic connection.
What to Expect in Our Sessions
Starting therapy, especially for trauma, can feel intimidating. I want to demystify the process so you know exactly what to expect.
- The First Step: We will start with an initial consultation or intake session. This is a time for us to get to know each other. You can share what brings you to therapy, and I can answer any questions you have about my style.
- Building Safety: We will move at your pace. I will never force you to discuss traumatic memories before you feel ready and safe to do so. Establishing trust is the most important part of our work.
- Developing Tools: Before we dive into the deep past, we often work on coping strategies—tools you can use today to manage anxiety, improve sleep, and regulate your emotions when you feel triggered.
- Processing and Growth: As we progress, we will work through the underlying issues, helping you integrate those experiences so they no longer control your present.
Is This Right for You?
I work with adults (18+), older adults, and couples.
You might be a young professional in Uptown feeling burned out and anxious. You might be a retiree in Preston Hollow looking to make sense of past family dynamics. Or you might be a couple in The Village trying to navigate communication breakdowns caused by past hurts.
Regardless of your stage in life, my goal is to walk alongside you. I am currently under the supervision of Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S, which ensures that our work together is supported by a network of clinical experience.
