Living in Grapevine often feels like existing in two different worlds. On one hand, you have the vibrant energy of Historic Main Street, the crowds flocking to the wineries, and the seasonal rush that comes with being the "Christmas Capital of Texas." It is a community that values celebration, connection, and activity.
But if you are carrying the weight of past trauma or struggling with symptoms of PTSD, that external bustle can feel incredibly isolating. When everyone around you seems to be enjoying the festivals or heading out for a weekend on Lake Grapevine, feeling stuck in a cycle of anxiety or painful memories is exhausting.
I am Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I offer online counseling services specifically designed to help you navigate these difficult experiences from the safety and privacy of your own home. You don’t have to navigate the path to healing alone, and you certainly don’t have to sit in traffic on Highway 114 to find support.
When the "Grapevine Funnel" is the Last Place You Want to Be
One of the biggest barriers to consistent therapy is simply logistics. If you live in neighborhoods like Silver Lake, Glade Crossing, or Heritage Cove, you know that getting anywhere in the DFW Metroplex requires strategy. The convergence of Highways 114, 121, and 635—often called the "Grapevine Funnel"—can turn a simple appointment into a stress-inducing ordeal.
For someone dealing with trauma, stress is exactly what we are trying to manage, not create.
By offering my services entirely via telehealth, I remove the commute from the equation. You don’t have to worry about rushing from a shift at Grapevine Mills or the airport to make an appointment. You don’t have to worry about running into a neighbor or colleague in a waiting room. instead, you can engage in deep, meaningful work from your living room, your parked car during a lunch break, or a quiet home office.
Understanding Trauma in a Busy Hub
Trauma is not always what people see in the movies. While it certainly includes combat experiences or major disasters, it also encompasses a wide range of human experiences that overwhelm our ability to cope.
Grapevine is a unique hub. With DFW International Airport practically in our backyard, many residents work in aviation, logistics, or hospitality. These are high-pressure industries. I often speak with individuals who have experienced workplace accidents, high-stress incidents, or the cumulative trauma of a lifestyle that never really allows the body to rest.
Trauma can also look like:
- Past relationships: Lingering fear or self-doubt from abusive or manipulative dynamics.
- Accidents: The anxiety that spikes every time you have to merge onto the highway after a vehicle collision.
- Childhood experiences: Old wounds that resurface when you are trying to raise your own family.
- Loss: Grief that feels complicated or "stuck," preventing you from moving forward.
When these experiences go unprocessed, they don't just go away. They manifest as anxiety, sleeplessness, irritability, or a constant feeling of being "on guard." You might find yourself avoiding the crowds at Main Street Fest not because you dislike the event, but because the noise and lack of exits make you feel unsafe.
My Approach to Healing
I believe that therapy is a partnership. I am not here to tell you how to live your life or to offer quick fixes that don't stick. Instead, I view my role as someone who walks alongside you.
My approach is grounded in creating a safe, non-judgmental space. Being bilingual in English and Spanish allows me to serve a broader range of the community, ensuring that language barriers don’t stand in the way of expressing complex emotions.
In our sessions, I draw from several evidence-based methods tailored to your specific needs:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Trauma often lies to us. It tells us we aren't safe, that we are at fault, or that things will never get better. We will work together to identify these thought patterns and gently challenge them, replacing them with more balanced, realistic perspectives.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT):
While we will honor and process the past, we also want to improve your present. We will look for your existing strengths—the resilience that has gotten you this far—and use them to build practical strategies for coping with daily stressors.
Person-Centered & Positive Psychology:
You are the expert on your own life. My goal is to empower you to rediscover your sense of self, shifting the focus from "what is wrong with me?" to "what happened to me, and how do I want to grow from it?"
Privacy and Comfort in Your Own Space
For many in Grapevine, privacy is a major concern. Whether you are a teacher within GCISD, a pilot, or a local business owner, you likely want to keep your mental health journey private.
Telehealth offers a level of discretion that in-person offices sometimes cannot. There is no possibility of bumping into an acquaintance while you are waiting for your session. You control your environment.
If you find peace looking out at the water, you can have your session from a quiet spot near the lake (provided you have a good signal!). If your safe space is a cozy corner of your bedroom with your pets nearby, that is where we will meet. This comfort often allows us to get to the heart of the matter faster, as you are already in an environment where you feel secure.
What to Expect in Our First Session
Starting therapy, especially for trauma, can feel intimidating. It takes immense courage to open up about the things that hurt the most.
When we first meet, my priority is simply to get to know you. You do not have to share your deepest traumas in the first hour—or ever, until you are ready. We will move at your pace.
We will discuss:
- What brings you to counseling right now.
- How your symptoms are affecting your daily life (sleep, work, relationships).
- Your goals for our time together.
- How we can build a coping toolkit that works for your specific lifestyle.
I am supervised by Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S, which ensures that our work together is supported by a network of clinical experience and professional oversight.
