Living in Houston has a specific kind of rhythm. It’s the constant hum of the AC battling the humidity, the sea of brake lights on the 610 Loop at 5 PM, and the incredible, non-stop energy of a city that feels like it’s always building, always growing.
But that “always on” energy can make it incredibly difficult to find a moment of peace.
If you are struggling with past trauma or symptoms of PTSD, the sheer scale of this city can feel overwhelming. You might feel like you have to keep moving just to survive, burying your pain under a busy schedule in the Energy Corridor or distracting yourself with the noise of the city.
I’m Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I help adults and couples in Houston slow down, process their experiences, and find a sense of safety again—all without having to fight traffic to get to an office.
When the Hustle Becomes Too Heavy
Houston is a city of resilience. We rebuild after hurricanes, we weather the freezes, and we get back to work. But that culture of resilience often comes with a hidden cost: we forget to tend to our own emotional injuries.
You might tell yourself that what you went through “wasn’t that bad” compared to what others have faced. But trauma isn’t a competition. It is a physiological and emotional response to feeling unsafe or helpless.
In Houston, trauma triggers can be unique:
- Weather Anxiety: For many of us, the sound of heavy rain on the roof or a hurricane forecast isn’t just weather—it’s a somatic trigger that brings back the panic of Harvey or other floods.
- High-Performance Pressure: Whether you are in the Texas Medical Center, the oil and gas industry, or tech, there is immense pressure to perform. This can mask underlying trauma, leading to burnout and high-functioning anxiety.
- Urban Hypervigilance: If you are dealing with PTSD, the crowds at the Galleria, the noise of Montrose, or the unpredictability of driving on I-45 can leave your nervous system in a constant state of “fight or flight.”
Why Online Therapy Works for Houstonians
Let’s be honest: the last thing you need when you are dealing with trauma is more stress. In a city as spread out as ours, driving from The Woodlands to Sugar Land, or even just from The Heights to Downtown, can take an hour or more.
I offer 100% telehealth counseling specifically to remove that barrier.
- No Commute: You don’t have to sit in gridlock on the Beltway or pay for parking in the Medical Center.
- Safe Environment: Trauma work requires safety. You can engage in therapy from your own living room, a private office, or wherever you feel most grounded.
- Privacy: For professionals in high-visibility roles, online therapy offers a layer of discretion that sitting in a waiting room cannot.
My Approach to Healing
I am bilingual (fluent in English and Spanish), which allows me to serve Houston’s diverse community in the language that feels most natural to your emotional experience.
My approach is not about forcing you to “relive” your trauma. Instead, we work collaboratively to build safety first. I draw from Person-Centered Therapy and Positive Psychology to help you uncover your inherent strengths. We may also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to understand how your thoughts influence your feelings, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help you take practical steps toward the life you want.
I provide a confidential, judgment-free space where you don’t have to carry the “Houston strong” armor. You can just be human.
Who I Work With
- Adults (18+): Individuals navigating anxiety, depression, or the aftereffects of traumatic events.
- Couples: Partners looking to reconnect or navigate the strain that trauma can place on a relationship.
- Spanish Speakers: Clients who prefer to process complex emotions in their native language (Hablo español y ofrezco servicios de consejería en su idioma).
Reclaiming Your Peace in the Bayou City
You don’t have to leave Houston to find calm, and you don’t have to wait for the city to slow down to find peace. Healing is possible, and it starts with giving yourself permission to stop carrying the weight alone.
I would be honored to walk this path with you.
