From the outside, Plano often looks like the picture of success. Whether it’s the gleaming corporate headquarters lining the Platinum Corridor, the perfectly manicured lawns in Willow Bend, or the bustling energy of Legacy West on a Friday night, this city is built on high standards. We are known as a "City of Excellence," and for many residents, that title comes with a heavy silent pressure to keep it all together.
But trauma doesn’t care about your zip code or job title.
If you are reading this, you might be feeling the weight of something that feels impossible to carry alone. You might be exhausted from maintaining a "perfect" exterior while fighting an internal battle that no one else sees. My name is Anamile Guerra, and I provide online trauma and PTSD counseling specifically for residents of Plano and the surrounding areas.
I want you to know that you don't have to keep pretending everything is okay.
The Reality of Trauma in the "Plano Bubble"
Living in a high-achieving city like Plano has its perks, but it can also create a unique kind of isolation. When everyone around you seems to be thriving—posting photos from The Shops at Legacy or cheering on their kids at highly competitive Plano ISD events—it’s easy to feel like you’re the only one struggling.
Trauma isn't limited to combat veterans or headlines. It can look like:
- Past events that refuse to stay in the past, intruding on your thoughts when you're trying to focus at work.
- High-functioning anxiety that drives you to overwork at Toyota or Liberty Mutual, fearing that if you stop, the memories will catch up.
- Relational wounds that make it hard to trust others, whether you're dating in the Downtown Arts District or navigating a marriage in Deerfield.
- Accident-related anxiety, perhaps stemming from a collision on US-75 or the Dallas North Tollway, making every commute feel life-threatening.
Trauma rewires the brain to be on constant alert. You might feel "on edge" while walking the trails at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, unable to actually take in the peace around you. Or maybe you feel numb, going through the motions of your day without really being present.
Why Telehealth Fits the Plano Lifestyle
One of the biggest barriers to therapy in North Texas is simply getting there.
If you live near Spring Creek Parkway or work off the Tollway, you know that "just a few miles" can turn into a 45-minute ordeal during rush hour. The construction delays on the DNT and the unpredictable gridlock on US-75 add unnecessary stress to your day—stress you don’t need when you’re trying to heal.
By choosing online counseling, we remove the commute entirely.
- No fighting traffic: You won't arrive at your session flushed and frustrated because of a backup at the Legacy interchange.
- Complete Privacy: In a close-knit community, bumping into a neighbor, colleague, or fellow parent in a waiting room is a real concern. With telehealth, your waiting room is your own living room, parked car, or private office.
- Flexibility: Whether you are squeezing in a session during your lunch break at a corporate campus or finding a quiet moment while the kids are at school, online therapy fits into your schedule, not the other way around.
My Approach: A Safe Space to Unpack
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate tailored to walk with you through the healing process. I am also bilingual (English and Spanish), which allows me to serve Plano’s diverse community in the language that feels most comfortable for you.
I don’t believe in a "one-size-fits-all" fix. Instead, I use an integrated approach that draws from:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): To help you understand how your thoughts about a traumatic event might be keeping you stuck in pain.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): To help you identify your inherent strengths—because even if you feel broken, you have survived this far for a reason.
- Person-Centered & Positive Psychology: To ensure our sessions are a judgment-free zone where you are treated as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms.
My goal isn't to force you to "relive" your trauma repeatedly. Instead, we work at your pace to process what happened, reduce the power it has over your daily life, and help you regain a sense of safety and control.
What to Expect in Our Sessions
Starting therapy can be intimidating, especially if you've been holding onto things for a long time. Here is what you can expect when we work together:
- A connection, not a clinical interrogation: I strive to be warm, human, and authentic. I am supervised by Jennifer Gonzalez, MS, LPC-S, and Amanda Varnon, MA, LPC-S, ensuring you receive high-quality care, but our time together will feel like a conversation, not a medical exam.
- Tools for the real world: We will work on grounding techniques you can use when panic sets in—whether you're in a meeting or grocery shopping at H-E-B.
- A focus on the future: While we honor the past, our work is ultimately about helping you build a life you actually want to live, right here and now.
You Don't Have to Drive This Road Alone
You might be used to handling everything yourself. That’s the Plano way—hard work, resilience, and independence. But healing from trauma is not something you have to do in isolation.
Whether you are in West Plano, the historic east side, or anywhere in between, I am here to offer a supportive space where you can finally let your guard down.
If you are ready to explore what life could look like on the other side of this pain, I’d love to hear from you.
