LatinX Therapist

Living in Temple offers a unique blend of experiences. We have the bustling energy of a major medical hub, the deep roots of our Historic District, and the rapid expansion pushing out toward West Temple. Whether you spend your days working long shifts at Baylor Scott & White, navigating the logistics industry, or simply managing the daily rhythms of family life near Western Hills, life here is full.

But for many, the busyness of the city can sometimes mask a deeper, quieter struggle. If you are reading this, you might be carrying the weight of a past experience that just won’t let go. Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are not always what they look like in movies. They are personal, complex, and often invisible to the people around us.

I am Anamile Guerra, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. I offer online counseling specifically designed to help residents of Temple and the surrounding Central Texas area navigate the difficult terrain of trauma. I provide a space where you can stop holding your breath and start the process of healing, all without leaving your home.

When the Past Feels Like the Present

Temple is a city of healing—literally. With the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center and the massive healthcare infrastructure here, this community is dedicated to caring for others. However, I often find that the people who give the most—medical professionals, veterans, first responders, and caregivers—are often the ones silently carrying the heaviest burdens.

Trauma doesn’t discriminate. It can stem from a singular, life-altering event, or it can be the result of prolonged stress and emotional wounds that have accumulated over years.

You might notice it when you’re driving down Loop 363 and a sudden sense of panic sets in for no obvious reason. It might show up as a shorter fuse with your spouse or children, leaving you feeling guilty and confused after a minor disagreement. Or perhaps it’s the exhaustion that hits you the moment you walk in the door of your home in Canyon Creek, a fatigue that sleep never seems to fix.

PTSD and trauma responses often look like:

  • Hypervigilance: Feeling like you always need to watch your back or scan the room for danger.
  • Avoidance: Going out of your way to avoid specific places, people, or conversations that remind you of painful memories.
  • Intrusive Thoughts: Memories that replay without your permission, disrupting your focus at work or your peace at night.
  • Emotional Numbness: Feeling detached from the people you love, as if you are watching your life through a pane of glass.

If any of this sounds familiar, I want you to know that you are not broken. You are having a normal reaction to an abnormal experience, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Why Online Therapy Works for Temple Residents

One of the biggest hurdles to seeking therapy is the logistics of getting there. Temple is growing, and with that growth comes traffic. The construction and congestion along I-35 and the main arteries can turn a simple appointment into a stressful ordeal.

By choosing telehealth, you remove the commute entirely. You don’t have to worry about rushing from a shift at the hospital to make it to an office on the other side of town. You don’t have to sit in traffic near the industrial park or worry about running into a neighbor, colleague, or patient in a waiting room.

Online counseling offers a level of privacy that is particularly valuable in a connected community like Temple. Whether you live in a new development in Lakewood Ranch or a historic home north of downtown, your session takes place wherever you feel most safe and comfortable.

This format allows us to do deep, meaningful work in an environment that is already familiar to you. We can integrate coping strategies directly into your daily life. If we talk about grounding techniques, you can practice them in your own living room, making it easier to use them when you actually need them.

My Approach to Healing

I believe that therapy is not about “fixing” you, because you are not a problem to be solved. It is about understanding your story and finding ways to integrate your experiences so they no longer control your present.

My approach is grounded in warmth, collaboration, and evidence-based practices. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and positive psychology. I also operate from a person-centered perspective, which means I trust that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering the tools and perspective needed to clear the path forward.

A Space for Everyone

I am bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish. I know that Central Texas is culturally diverse, and for many, emotions and memories are deeply tied to their first language. If you feel more comfortable expressing yourself in Spanish, or switching between languages to find the right words, my virtual door is open to you.

I work with adults of all ages. Whether you are a young professional dealing with burnout, a retiree reflecting on a long life, or anyone in between, we can work together to build resilience.

Navigating Trauma in a Growing City

Temple is a city in transition. We see the beautiful revitalization downtown and the rapid expansion of residential areas near the airport. While growth is positive, it can also bring a sense of instability or displacement. For those already struggling with anxiety or PTSD, rapid environmental changes can sometimes exacerbate feelings of unease.

In our sessions, we can work on grounding techniques that help you feel rooted, regardless of how fast the world around you is moving. We can explore:

  • Safety Building: Creating mental and physical sanctuaries where you can recharge.
  • Narrative Processing: Looking at the stories we tell ourselves about our past and finding new ways to frame them.
  • Strength Identification: Rediscovering the resilience that has gotten you this far.

I often encourage my clients to utilize the local environment as part of their healing. While our sessions are online, your “homework” might involve mindful walks at Miller Springs Nature Center or finding a quiet moment by Belton Lake. Reconnecting with the physical world is a powerful antidote to the dissociation that often accompanies trauma.
